Rewarding excellence   

At a ceremony held on Thursday 24th September at Lisbon’s Pestana Palace Hotel, Iberian Lawyer revealed the winners of the 40 under Forty Awards 2009, the list including lawyers from private practice and in-house legal departments drawn from across Spain, Portugal and around the world.

The ceremony was attended by over 250 guest, including senior Iberian in-house counsel and Heads of Legal, as well as the managing and senior partners of almost all the major law firms in Spain and Portugal, as well as special guests from the US, UK and elsewhere across Europe.  

Among the 40 under Forty winners, two Outstanding Achievement Awards were presented, to

      - Leopoldo Gonzalez-Echenique,Group General Counsel of NH Hoteles, 

     - Teresa Paz-Ares, Head of the Life Sciences practice at Uría Menéndez.  

 

In addition, a separate Special Recognition Award was made to

 - Miguel Maduro, an Advocate General at the European Court of Justice,

in reflection of his contribution to both the Iberian and wider European legal arenas.

Iberian Lawyer´s 40 under Forty awards recognises the achievements of the new generation of lawyers shaping the future of law within Spain and Portugal. Held every two years, the awards acknowledge the 40 leading lawyers under 40 years of age who work either within Iberia or advise Spanish and Portuguese organisations around the world.
